International Day of Women and Girls in Science: Friday, February 10, and Saturday, February 11, initiatives organized at Scuola Sant'Anna among popularization, exhibitions and performances
On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated on Saturday, February 11, 2023, the Sant'Anna School is offering a rich program of events counting three different initiatives, with important guests and collaborations, to remember the fundamental role that women and girls play in the field of science and technology.
"Parenting and STEM in the 21st Century: Raising children, giving up science?"
The Sant'Anna School is participating in "Parenting and STEM in the 21st Century: Raising children, giving up science?" a panel discussion, organized in collaboration with EELISA and other partner universities, to be followed online starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 11th. The discussion analyzes a survey conducted among academic staff at EELISA partner universities in September 2022, which revealed how parenting can be "a barrier" to research careers. The goal of the event is to create a space for reflection on a sensitive issue through the point of view of different international realities, with speakers with different backgrounds and positions within institutions. The Sant'Anna School is represented by Antonella Bogoni, professor at the TeCIP Institute, who, together with Evangelia Ntormousi from the Scuola Normale Superiore, brings her experience in the path between parenting and academia.
"Women and Science"
In collaboration with the OrangeTeam Lug Association of Pisa, the Sant'Anna School is hosting a temporary exhibition of science scenarios made with Lego ® bricks. The exhibition features the reproduction of prominent female scientists and is open to the public in the San Gerolamo cloister in the main campus on Friday, February 10th and Saturday, February 11th, 2023.
"The Supremes: the Benefits of Being XX"
To conclude the day on Saturday, February 11, at 6 p.m., the Sant'Anna School will host the play "The Supremes: the advantages of being XX", featuring actress Emanuela Grimalda from Trieste and Marco Martinelli, science communicator and collaborator of the Sant'Anna School.
